Finlarig Castle Amazing old castle with some interesting history behind it. Finlarig Castle is an early 17th-century ruin located on a wooded mound near the village of Killin, at the western end of Loch Tay in Scotland. Built in 1609 by "Black" Duncan Campbell of Glenorchy, it was designed as a traditional L-plan tower house and served as a formidable stronghold for the powerful Campbells of Breadalbane. Today, the castle is heavily overgrown, unmaintained, and dangerously dilapidated. Despite its crumbling state, it remains highly atmospheric and is famous for its dark folklore—most notably a stone-lined pit near the castle walls that local legend claims was used by the Campbells for beheadings.
