Vocal warm up exercises for singers. This 7-minute routine for pop singers covers chest voice, mixed voice, twang, and bright vowel exercises — suitable for teens and adults at any level. Men sing down the octave. This group of exercises focuses on getting a chesty balanced mix. The routine begins with breathing exercises to activate breath support and engage the diaphragm, followed by an articulation drill on Mommy Made Me Mash to build forward placement and consonant clarity. Yah Yah develops chest voice strength and resonance, while Nya Nya introduces twang and bright mixed voice coordination. The Bright Ah 58531 exercise develops mixed voice brightness and vowel shaping. Glay Glay blends the registers for smooth transitions, and It Is A Very Nice Day builds a chesty mix on an arpeggio. The routine finishes with a descending pentatonic riff to develop agility. Mixed or mix voice is recognisable by its brighter, edgy or brassy quality. The shape of the vocal tract and mouth may be slightly wider rather than tall, as in a classical head voice timbre. Be careful not to widen the mouth too much, otherwise the tone may be too harsh. I made this mistake myself when crossing over from classical to contemporary singing. The chest voice exercises build a solid, resonant foundation, and the mixed voice exercises develop a bright, connected sound through the full range. These exercises will help you learn how to sing better and build a stronger, more reliable voice over time.
