A powerful, penetrating sound to this piece, reminds me of early Takemitsu
00:00 I. TRANSES [Dread]. Searing quarter-tone chords introduce a lyrical cello chant (1:05)
04:40 II. LITANIES. Delirium-inducing figurations and counterpoint contrast with powerfully strident chords
06:34 The soundscape clears up with luminous harmonics, distant melodies and bird calls
07:38 III. RÊVES [Dreams]. Swelling chords over stirring cello soli
08:18 IV. CHARMES. A sweet subtle melody in an energetic Uzbek dance
09:48 A shimmering soundscape appears
11:01 The lyrical chant reappears in a melancholy atmosphere, multiple versions layering over itself
12:57 V. RUMEURS. Melodies with various microtonal inflections whisper over a mysterious bed of sound
14:44 The anxiety-inducing tremolos of the introduction return with renewed intensity to close out the piece
Composer: Jean-Louis Florentz (December 19, 1947 – July 4, 2004) (Piece withdrawn by composer)
Orchestra: Nouvelle orchestre philharmonique at Radio France conducted by Gilbert Amy
Ténéré - Incantation sur un verset coranique [Ténéré - Incantation on a Quranic Verse], op. 2
Thanks to @chronochromie772 for introducing this composer and piece to me.
The Ténéré is a desert region spanning across Niger and Chad. The microtonal inflections likely reflect the microtones of Arabic music.
