The True Enlightenment | 1 Corinthians 2 & 3 | Andrew Fulton

Picture a wedding where the groom never once looks at his bride. That is the church at Corinth — and, if we're honest, often us. In 1 Corinthians 2 and 3, Paul walks the church back through its own history so that we never take our eyes off the main event: Jesus Christ. In this message, Pastor Andrew Fulton traces that history in four movements. We underrated God: the rulers of this age met the Lord of glory and crucified him, treating the greatest treasure as a threat — like kids playing sandlot ball with a Babe Ruth autograph. God recalibrated our minds: by his own Spirit he lets us see what he has freely given us, the way Ron Weasley finally sees Hermione at the Yule Ball and John Wesley felt his heart "strangely warmed." The gospel is the judge, not the judged: with the mind of Christ we take every thought captive and, as C.S. Lewis put it, see everything else by it. And so, don't forget: Christians can be surrounded by Jesus' word, Jesus' people and Jesus' books and still miss Jesus. It is possible to be enlightened and still look away.
