Learn the basics of kite flying and how to rig your kite in Lesson 3 of our beginner kiteboarding series. This lesson covers steering, figure eights, bar throttle, trim, and how to set up your lines without confusion.
You will see how pulling one side of the bar sends the kite in that direction, how to fly figure eights through the wind window to scoop power, and how to practice at the edge of the wind window before moving into the power zone. We also explain how pushing the bar out dumps wind from the canopy, and how trim pre-adjusts the angle of attack so you do not have to sheet out with your arms all the time.
Then we move on to rigging. Learn how to lay out your bar for an upwind or downwind setup, separate the inside lines from the outside lines, and connect everything to your kite. We cover what the bridle and inside lines do for stability and safety, why the outside lines steer the kite, and how to tighten the simple line knot so it does not slip.
Whether you are just getting started or need a refresher before your next session, this lesson gives you a clear, repeatable routine for flying and rigging your kite.
