What gives you the workplace ick?
In this episode of Not a Lonely Coffee Break, Maddie and Meaghan are talking about the little things at work that make you cringe and what those reactions might actually tell us about communication, expectations, and boundaries in the workplace.
We break down the difference between a true boundary, a workplace expectation, and something that simply gives you the ick. From context-free Teams messages and surprise calendar invites to meetings that should have been emails, corporate jargon, unexpected phone calls, and the unwritten rules nobody bothered to put in the employee handbook, we’re asking: Are these actually workplace problems, or are we expecting everyone else to know the rules we've created in our own heads?
We also put some classic corporate phrases through the translation machine. What does “circle back” really mean? Is a “gentle reminder” ever actually gentle? And if someone writes “per my last email,” how much trouble are you in?
Plus, we get into direct communication, flexible schedules, meeting etiquette, workplace “families,” and why sometimes giving people a little more context could save everyone a whole lot of unnecessary anxiety.
☕ Coffee Breakers: What’s YOUR biggest workplace ick? What corporate phrase drives you up the wall? And what unwritten workplace rule did you have to learn the hard way?
