Back to My Childhood Home in Rural China | 36 Years of Family Memories

During China’s National Day holiday, I returned to my hometown and the family courtyard that has been part of our lives for 36 years. I’m 43 now. I was just seven when we first made this place our home. So much of my childhood, and so many of our family’s everyday moments, belong here. Now, the house on the south side of the courtyard is being rebuilt. Watching it change brings back memories and makes me realize how much time has passed. The buildings may change, but the connection to this place stays with me.
