Slay the Princess is my latest indie game obsession - an incredibly unique game that is both haunting and beautiful. I first found out about it after backing Scarlet Hollow (the dev team's previous game) on kickstarter - I am now very glad I checked it out even though it took me a fair while. Can't recommend both games enough! Brandon Boone's work on this game is phenomenal, and I very quickly found myself wanting to arrange something from the soundtrack. I was initally thinking of doing one of the iterations of "The Shifting Mound" but ultimately decided on The Apotheosis as it already has drums as well as some slightly chuggy guitars hiding in the back - that way I ruined the original SLIGHTLY less lmaoo Premiering my newly purchased fretless bass in this arrangement! Very scary instrument to play but I love the sound of it. I need to get a lot better at intonating for sure. 9 string guitar also featured in the video for continuity as there's very frequent use of the lowest string (tuned to C), but the audio was actually recorded on my Solar 8 tuned to drop E with the lower notes achieved using automated pitch shifting (Buster Odeholm style). I was considering recording the vocal part myself at first, but I quickly decided this song deserves a more princess-like vocal performance haha. I used the sampled Soprano from Audio Imperia's "Solo" library and I'm surprised how realistic it sounds after some time spent dialing in the legato overlaps in the MIDI. I don't really have any neat looking place for shooting video in my house yet, so I thought going outside would look cool. It was about 3°C out and my hands were NOT comfortable, but I think it was worth it.
