What would a really good, sustainable transport system look like for the Ullswater valley by 2037? SITU chair Michael Firth shares our ideas for the future of travel in Ullswater and the Lake District, and explains why now is the time to get them heard.
With Cumbria's first mayor elected next May and a new national transport strategy, rural transport is on the agenda like never before. We want a valley that welcomes visitors but has fewer cars, less congestion and better ways to get around: more frequent buses, boats on the lake, a safe Penrith to Ullswater cycle route, park and ride, and an Ullswater travel card.
These are ideas, not decisions, and we'd love to hear yours.
SITU (Sustainable and Integrated Transport for Ullswater) is a community-led charity, no. 1214271.
