Celebration of Independence Day 2026, Khawzawl District

Dated Khawzawl, the 15th August, 2026: The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated at 9:00 AM today at Mualvawm Field, Khawzawl. Pu C. Lalsawivunga, Minister of District Council & Minority Affairs, Art & Culture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary and Horticulture, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. During the celebration, the Chief Guest unfurled the National Flag and took the salute from 15 parade contingents. He then continued to deliver the Independence Day address. Chief Guest Pu C. Lalsawivunga extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of Khawzawl District, as well as to everyone in Mizoram and those living outside the state, on the momentous occasion of the 80th Independence Day. He stated that on this significant day, it is important for all of us to remember and acknowledge anew the immense sacrifices and dedication of the great leaders who fought selflessly and gave their lives for India’s freedom, as well as the invaluable contributions of the people who supported the freedom struggle. He expressed his gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly for the successful organisation of the Independence Day celebration, including the parade contingents, students and all members of the public who attended the programme. Following the Chief Guest's address, prizes for the ceremonial parade and other awards and honours were presented. The ceremonial parade consisted of 1 armed contingent, 3 unarmed contingents and 11 school contingents, with musical accompaniment provided by the Government Khawzawl High School Pipe Band. Sub-Inspector Lalhmuakliana served as Parade Commander, while Sub-Inspector Lalrosanga Parte served as the 2nd Parade Commander. The top three school contingents in the ceremonial parade were awarded prizes: First – PES Khawzawl 1st Contingent Second – PES Khawzawl Vengthar Girls’ Contingent Third – Far East Experimental School Other awards were also presented on the occasion. ASI Lalneihsanga, Team Leader of the Khawzawl DEF Special Team constituted on 28 November 2025, to combat drug related activities received the Governor’s Silver Medal for his dedicated service. The Chief Guest presented awards to the following members of the Special Team: Head Constable PC Lalzarmawia Constable Richard Lalsangzela Constable Vanlalchhuanga Constable Ramdinzela Pu Zoramchhana, VCP of Khualen, who was awarded the Best Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) Chairman award among villages across Mizoram on World Water Day this year, was also honoured. His award, under the category “Distinguished Sarpanch for Outstanding Leadership in Rural Piped Water Supply Management,” was presented in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards protecting water sources and effectively managing the village water supply system. Following the programme at Mualvawm Field, an ‘At Home’ programme hosted by the Chief Guest was held for invited guests at DC Bungalow, where refreshments were served.
