In the fourth episode of Seeding Hope, Dr Jessica Hutchings (Tūhoe, Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Huirapa, Gujarati) sits down with independent kaupapa Māori researcher, Naomi Simmonds, who is of Raukawa descent. During her kōrero (conversation), we learn about what it means to reclaim our village as Mana Wāhine, and to understand its history and its evolution. Seeding Hope is a 10 episode podcast series, developed by Papawhakaritorito Charitable Trust, and supported by Ma Earth. The Aotearoa-produced podcast weaves together Indigenous knowledge with practical insights from a diverse group of Māori wāhine (women) leaders, including kai (food) growers, environmental activists, deep thinkers, poets and healers. Through discussing why sharing, saving, storing and sowing seeds are vital practices that connect us back to the rhythms of Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), each guest illuminates an alternative way - one that builds biodiversity, recloaks our soils and invites us all to slow down and embrace the knowledge of tūpuna (ancestral) wisdom. If you feel called to stand up for seed and soil, sign the Mana Wāhine Indigenous Women's Declaration for Soil and Seed here: https://www.papawhakaritorito.com/man...
