Our afternoon with the humpback whales!

We took this excursion at Juneau, Alaska, through Holland America cruise line. The tour guide “B” and Captain Rob (Gastinau Guiding) were amazing! The highlight was when the whales changed course and swam directly under our boat. It was almost a sacred experience. Captain Rob and B explained that boats are required by law to keep a specified minimum distance from the whales, but whales have a mind of their own and are unpredictable. Instead of powering up the boat to try to get out of the way, ships are supposed to power down so their propellers don’t potentially hurt the whales. So that’s what Captain Rob did, although he admitted concern that his boat might get damaged and, of course, he cared about the whales and didn’t want them to be hurt either. What a beautiful day to view some of God,s greatest and magnificent creatures!
