Octopath Traveler CoTC -elite tower: guess how many attempts(corpses of my characters were butchered

I finally completed this. It seemed like a Catch-22: the prize of 1,000 gold guidestones seemed necessary to get my characters to high enough levels to win the guidestones...but persistence won the day...this time:/
