For one weekend every year, France opens the doors of places that are normally closed to the public: ministries, historic buildings, private workshops and institutions. Welcome to the European Heritage Days — a tradition that began in France in 1984 and has since spread across Europe. In this video, I take you behind the façades to discover what makes this weekend so special: places of power, craftsmanship, history and heritage. I’ll also take you inside the Institut Joaillerie Cartier, where I discovered the people and skills behind French jewellery — and even had the chance to try some of their techniques myself. And this is only the beginning. In the next video, I’ll take you behind the doors of one of France’s ministries. If you could open the doors of one normally inaccessible place in Paris, which one would you choose? Tell me in the comments.
