Jason Kidd, Gary Payton Hidden Gem Full Highlights (Rare) Phoenix Suns vs Seattle SuperSonics April 14, 1999 KeyArena JK - 30 pts, 10 ast, 6 reb, 3 stl / 11-19 fg, 7-15 2pt, 4-4 3pt, 4-4 ft GP - 31 pts, 5 ast, 3 reb, 3 stl / 12-20 fg, 9-14 2pt, 3-6 3pt, 4-4 ft The 1998-99 lockout season has it’s place in NBA infamy. Rushed free agent signings, shortened training camps, a crammed 50-game schedule and no All-Star Weekend led to a very forgettable 5 months of basketball. The Spurs-Knicks Finals registered the lowest rating of any Finals since 1981, with roughly 40% less viewers than the previous year’s Bulls-Jazz series. Although the lowlights, it still contained a fair amount of excellent team and individual performances. Gary Payton and Jason Kidd played against each other 57 times (41 reg season, 16 postseason). Kidd’s squads won 29 of them, Payton’s 28. Using landofbasketball.com, I discovered that their combined total of 61 points on April 14, 1999 is the most they ever combined for as hardwood opponents. The SuperSonics set a shot-clock era (1954- ) record in this game. Grabbing only 19, they claimed the mark for fewest rebounds in a regular season contest by one team. The number was soon bested in 2001 when Detroit logged only 18 boards in a matchup with Charlotte. The Brooklyn Nets took hold of the top spot in 2014, finishing with just 17 amidst a blowout loss to Oklahoma City. - Rare - few or no known highlights of player/game on YouTube at time of publishing.
