Azure AI Foundry tutorial (Microsoft Foundry) for .NET and C# developers: create the Azure OpenAI resource step by step and deploy GPT-4.1-mini, text-embedding-3-small and gpt-image-1-mini for a RAG application. Episode 3 of the Kodify Dev "RAG in .NET" series.
In this episode we build the AI side of our C# and .NET 10 RAG app for real, in the Azure portal and the Microsoft Foundry portal: a new Azure resource group, a Microsoft Foundry resource (every wizard tab explained), the keys and endpoint our ASP.NET Core Web API needs, three OpenAI model deployments, and a test of each model in the playground. (Azure AI Foundry was renamed Microsoft Foundry, so you will see both names.) At the end, we save the setup notes in the repo and push them to GitHub.
In this episode:
✅ Creating an Azure resource group, plus naming conventions and tags
✅ Creating a Microsoft Foundry (Azure AI Foundry) resource: Basics, region choice, default project, Storage, networking, managed identity and encryption
✅ Keys and Endpoint: why there are two keys, and which endpoint our .NET API uses
✅ The Foundry portal: the model catalog, deployment types (Global Standard), tokens-per-minute limits and guardrails
✅ Deploying OpenAI models: gpt-4.1-mini, text-embedding-3-small and gpt-image-1-mini
✅ Testing the chat model and the image model in the Azure AI playground
✅ Saving the setup notes (no keys!) in VS Code and pushing to GitHub
