"There's No Going Back From This": James Webb Just Revealed One of the Oldest Galaxies Ever Seen
A tiny, faint speck in old Hubble images turned out to be a giant. When the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) took a closer look, it found GZ9P3, a massive, fully formed galaxy that existed just 510 million years after the Big Bang, at a redshift of 9.3. It has billions of stars, two bright cores from one of the earliest galaxy mergers ever seen, and heavy elements like iron, carbon, and silicon that shouldn't exist this early.
In this video, we explore:
How the James Webb Space Telescope spotted one of the oldest galaxies ever found
Why this early universe galaxy challenges our cosmology models
How galaxy mergers, star formation, and black holes may explain its rapid growth
What the Hubble tension and S8 tension mean for the crisis in cosmology
The universe may have been in a much bigger hurry than we thought. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
