Chavittu Nadakam — Impressions of an illustrious past | Kerala Culture

Chavittu Nadakam is a vibrant Christian art form from Kerala that hooks viewers’ attention with its colourful costumes, vigorous steps and dramatic rendering. Dating back to the 17th century CE, this art form is a combination of music, dance and drama. The art form is characterized by an elaborate sequence of events where the act of stamping (Chavittu) highlights the performance. Prevalent among the Latin Christian communities in Kerala, Chavittu Nadakam has a strong cultural influence of the European operas which is evident in its style and form. #chavittunadakam #artform #christianartform #latinchristiancommunity
