I installed a flat-bottom JCW steering wheel in my F56 Mini Cooper - this one's a red-stitched, red-centerline version from an eBay seller (autofun-extreme_team - I have no affiliation, but this is the second wheel I've ordered from them and both have been great quality). This wheel fits any F55/F56 Mini Cooper, JCW badge or not. It came with perforated leather sides, a flat bottom (easier to slide in and out of the car without a pocket knife catching the bottom edge), and I could pick the centerline color and stitching color separately. I much prefer this leather to BMW/Mini's Dynamica microsuede option - suede grabs the oils off your hands and mats down over time. Before touching anything: disconnect the negative battery terminal first (I actually did this out of order and had to circle back - do it before you unplug the airbag, since disconnecting a live airbag on a BMW/Mini platform throws an airbag fault that needs a tool to clear). The battery terminal is under the plastic engine cover, accessed with an 8mm and two 10mm fasteners. To release the airbag: there are three clips accessed through holes in the back of the wheel - push the bottom one up with a thin, flat tool (I used two different sizes of Allen key), then the two sides, and the airbag pops forward. Unplug the ground wire first, then the multi-pin harness second. The wheel itself comes off with a 16mm bolt (I used a 3/8" impact) - loosen it, then break the wheel free from the splined shaft with a firm tug before removing the bolt fully. There's a centering mark on both the wheel hub and the shaft, so reinstalling in the correct position is foolproof as long as those two marks line up. The button swap was the rough part. I wanted to move my factory buttons and JCW center badge onto the new wheel, and ended up breaking a couple of small plastic retention tabs in the process - not a big deal functionally, but if I were doing this again I'd just leave the new wheel's own buttons alone (English-labeled, but functionally identical) and only swap the JCW center piece, which goes on after the button harness is reconnected since the rubber isn't flexible once it's snapped in. Reinstalling: torque the 16mm bolt back down, reconnect the airbag's ground wire and harness, snap it into place, then reconnect the battery. I did run into one snag - the horn didn't work until I repositioned the wire harness up and out of the way so a ground point could make contact. Lesson learned for anyone doing this: don't move your buttons over, just use the ones that come with the wheel. Otherwise the swap itself is straightforward, and the finished wheel is a great match for the JCW stitching and gauges.
