In childhood, sweets were a special event. A homemade cake on a birthday. A few candies on a holiday. Ice cream in the summer.
Today sweets have become background noise. We eat them between tasks, while watching TV, on the road, “for the nerves,” and just because. Most of these products belong to the fourth group of the NOVA classification — ultra-processed foods. These are industrial formulations made from sugar, cheap fats often palm or hydrogenated oils, emulsifiers, colorings, and flavorings.
Research shows that sweet ultra-processed products are especially effective at driving overeating because they are designed to weaken normal satiety signals.
In this video I rank the 12 most popular sweet products — from relatively milder options to those that, by the combination of added sugar, fat quality, additives, glycemic impact, and nutrient emptiness, can fairly be called sweet poisons.
What you will learn:
Why many everyday sweets fall into the ultra-processed category NOVA Group 4;
How high amounts of added sugar and low-quality fats affect blood glucose, satiety, and long-term health;
Practical ways to read labels and choose better alternatives;
Which products deliver the strongest combination of sugar, poor-quality fats, and additives.
