Easiest climb in the Bugaboos | Frenchman Mountain | 8,022ft | British Columbia

Our mountain for today is Frenchman mountain. Frenchman Mountain is a relatively unpopular summit in the otherwise popular Bugaboos. Its located on the border of the park and has stunning views of all of the bugaboo spires, glaciers and even tall distant mountains such as Mount Farnham, Goodsir and Mount Temple. Our trip started a couple miles down the forest road. Normally people park at the end of the forest road, but it was becoming too much of a hassle to navigate the deep washouts. High clearance vehicles should be able to make it to the trailhead without issue. The forest road section is straight forward, and it put us on the actual trail. The trail is good in some points, but is easy to lose because of the wild fire and infrequent use. However once youre out of the forest, the alpine region below the mountains is incredible. There was wild flowers, mossy creeks and dozens of mountains. Because we were sick we ultimately decided to just climb the ridge, get a look at the Bugaboos and leave. We got to the ridge, and the views were amazing. After sitting for a while, we got up the energy to continue to bag a small peak just next to us. Once on top of that peak, Frenchman looked a lot closer. Another break and we had just enough energy to head over, successfully bagging the summit. Theres a couple parts where youre climbing, but no exposure or anything difficult. Definitely a class 2 mountain. Overall, Frenchman Mountain give incredible views and is relatively short if you make it to the trailhead.
