Before He Was Consul General, Oliver Mair Was One of Air Jamaica’s First Male Flight Attendants

Former Air Jamaica employee turn Consul General in New York Oliver Mair, takes us back to his days with the Lovebird and shares the experiences that helped shape his life and career. Mair recalls leaving a promising job at Jamaica Broilers — against his father’s initial advice — to become one of Air Jamaica’s earliest male flight attendants. He would go on to become the airline’s first male purser and first male supervisor before eventually serving as regional marketing manager. He also reflects on the people and culture that made Air Jamaica special, the airline’s role in connecting Jamaica with its diaspora, and the lessons about service that continue to influence his work today. 💡 Enjoyed this story?
