A closeup look at my beautiful breeding colony of Koi Swordtails.
Sanke Koi Swordtails are a hybrid species created by crossing a platy with a swordtail. And the result is a fish that looks a lot like a Koi. These swordtails
are called "Sanke" because that's the word that Japanese Koi breeders use to designate a Koi that has three colors- reddish orange and black on a white background. Both the swordtail and the platy give birth to live young and will interbreed if placed in the same tank. This cross breeding occurs frequently, and both the platies and the swordtails that you find in stores are actually hybrids. However, there are purists out there who keep and breed purebred
platies and swordtails, but you're not likely to find them in stores.
