How do you completely change the character of a ring while preserving its central diamond and original gold? In this video, we show the complete Jewelry Redesign process at Marchioness Jewelry Boutique — from carefully dismantling the original 18K yellow gold ring to creating an entirely new piece with a distinctive hammerwork texture. The original ring featured a cushion-cut yellow diamond surrounded by a halo of natural white diamonds, with additional white diamonds pavé-set along both sides of the band. The goal was not to repair or simply modify the existing ring. The client wanted to preserve the central diamond composition while completely changing the character of the piece. Dismantling the Original Ring The process begins with the careful removal of the diamonds from the side pavé. The stones are preserved as part of the client’s materials. Next, the cushion-shaped central composition — the yellow diamond together with its halo of natural white diamonds — is precisely separated from the original band. At this stage, it is essential to preserve not only the stones themselves, but also the central structure that will become part of the new ring. Melting the 18K Yellow Gold The remaining gold from the original ring is melted down. From this point, the old piece no longer determines the future form. The same gold becomes the material from which an entirely new band is created. This stage demonstrates one of the possibilities of professional Jewelry Redesign: preserving the value and meaningful elements of an existing piece while completely changing its character. Creating the New Hammerwork Band For the new ring, the client chose hammerwork. A new band is formed from the melted 18K yellow gold, and its surface is then worked with a specialized jeweler’s hammer. This creates the distinctive hammerwork texture — an expressive surface formed directly in the metal. The original pavé gives way to an entirely different aesthetic, allowing the gold itself to become an important part of the ring’s visual character. Reintroducing the Central Diamond Once the new band has been formed, one of the most precise stages of the process begins. The ring is prepared to receive the preserved central composition. It must be correctly positioned, precisely aligned with the new structure, and carefully soldered into place so that the original centerpiece and the newly created ring become one unified piece. The central cushion-cut yellow diamond remains the same. But everything around it takes on an entirely different character. Final Finishing Once all elements have been joined, the final finishing begins. The surfaces are meticulously refined, the ring is polished and cleaned, and the connections, proportions, and quality of execution are carefully inspected. Only after all of these stages are complete do we arrive at the result shown at the end of the video. The same 18K yellow gold. The same yellow diamond. An entirely different ring. For us, this is what true Jewelry Redesign is about — not simply changing an existing piece, but understanding what deserves to be preserved and creating an entirely new composition around it.
