Episode 3 — Olhão | Portugal | 4K | Silent Walk | 🎧 Binaural Audio

Hi all, Episode 3 takes us to Olhão, the largest fishing port in the Algarve. It was a beautiful sunny day and the town was absolutely buzzing — people going about their day, coffee shops packed, the markets full of life. This is one of those places that feels completely unfiltered — narrow white streets, flat rooftop terraces unlike anything else in Portugal, murals painted on the sides of old canning factories, and a waterfront that still runs entirely on the rhythm of the sea. Olhão doesn't look like the rest of the Algarve because it wasn't built for tourists. The flat-roofed, cubist architecture you'll see in the old town reflects centuries of trade with North Africa — local fishermen who grew wealthy enough to replace their wooden huts borrowed freely from the Moroccan architecture they knew from the other side of the Mediterranean. The town also has one of the most remarkable stories in Portuguese history. In 1808, during Napoleon's occupation of Portugal, Olhão became the first town in the country to drive out the French invaders. Within weeks, seventeen local fishermen set sail in a small open boat called the Bom Sucesso — without maps or modern navigation — and crossed the Atlantic to Brazil to deliver the news of the liberation to the exiled King João VI. The voyage took three months. As a reward, Olhão was granted a royal charter and became officially known as "Olhão da Restauração" — Olhão of the Restoration. A replica of the Bom Sucesso still floats in the harbour today. One small note — at a certain point in the video you'll hear my flip flops making their feelings very clearly known. I apologise.
