Some horse breeds are beautiful, smart and full of heart, but that doesn't make them right for every place. In this video, Cal Sutter, a Montana horseman who shod horses for 31 years, names 7 horse breeds he'd never let on his ranch and explains why none of them is a bad horse.
From the Shetland Pony and the Appaloosa to the Friesian, the off-track Thoroughbred, the Arabian, the Mustang and the Akhal-Teke, each of these horse breeds carries a history and a set of needs many owners never hear about.
You'll discover why a pony on good hay is at risk of founder, why an Appaloosa that balks at a dark barn may simply not see, and why a cribbing Thoroughbred is a bill coming due, not a vice.
But there's a deeper lesson here. There's no bad horse. There's a horse in the wrong place, and sometimes the kindest thing you can do is admit it.
Watch until the end to find out which breed Cal would make an exception for, and the honest week test that shows whether your place fits your horse.
Which of these seven have you owned? Tell Cal in the comments, and whether he'd pass the gate!
