QUARANTINE JAM 75 Introducing GUIDANCE MUGAYI. Born in 1995,this is Gospel artist Guidance. He goes to the Apostolic Faith church that the late Brian Sibalo & the late Freedom Sengwayo used to go, I'm sure you can tell the influence of those 2artists in his singing.This church is known for their love of Gospel ballads & use of vibrato in their singing. Its amazing how in Zimbabwe every church has its own genre or sub-genre.The Catholic have their Mbakumba influenced 'Fata murungu' ngoma, The Mapostori sects have their Postori accapella, the Zion sects have their genre that is accompanied by twirling dances, Zaoga & many pentecotal churches are now known for their love of Sungura music & S. African gospel. Here are some of the reasons that I think contribute to churches having their own sound: •Having one breakthrough artist from the church who inspires every singer in church,I'm sure this is the case with how Freedom Sengwayo influenced Brian Sibalo who later also influenced other artists from the same church. •If a church is formed in a area where there is a certain music genre, usually that genre is subconsciously incorporated in their music, I suspect this is what happened with the 'Fata murungu' Zimbabwean Catholic sound, it has a long of Mbakumba elements. •Church doctrine also plays a huge role. There are churches that discourage dancing, as a result all the music composed and performed in those churches is laid back, & churches that encourage dancing obviously will end up with music that is fast & dancable. Some church doctrines also discourage music that has African elements, that also contributed in how those churches' music was shaped.
