Random DOS Game Show #1125: Tony La Russa Baseball 3: 1996 Edition (1996)

Play ball! Nostril tries another baseball game, this one named after a famous player and manager! Does it score a home run, or does it strike out? Did you own a physical copy of this game? Let us know in the comments if picking Detroit crashed your game too! Tony La Russa Baseball 3: 1996 Edition (1996) was developed and published by Stormfront Studios. It's an enhanced version of Tony La Russa Baseball 3 with improved graphics, better gamepad control, updated rosters and an improved statistics module. Officially licensed by the Major League Baseball Players Association, it features real players complete with portraits, and a choice of three well known broadcasters for commentary, including Hank Greenwald and Mel Allen. The presentation is a highlight, with high quality music, ambient stadium sounds like jets flying overhead, and Tony's Tips, a collection of FMV clips in which the Hall of Fame manager himself explains baseball strategy such as the squeeze play. Beyond exhibition games there's a fantasy draft with auction style options, a GM challenge, and an extensive manager mode for adjusting play style sliders, rosters, pitching staffs and trades. You can even create your own team, stadium and baseball universe. On the field, the arrow keys select pitches such as fastballs, curves, changeups and sliders, or swing types including normal, power, contact and bunt, with Enter toggling between normal and defensive commands. You can play every pitch and field yourself, take a manage only role, or let the computer play the whole game. It's a game by baseball fanatics for baseball fanatics, and the sheer depth of options may overwhelm more casual players. Watch out for Detroit too, as selecting them crashed the game!
