Rhodes is a city and a province, located on an island with the same name just off southwestern Asia Minor. In Rome: Total War it starts off under Greek control with a large town, and the Colossus of Rhodes World Wonder. The starting garrison is one General and his bodyguard (Memnon of Sparta), one Militia hoplites, and one Rhodian Slingers. The Colossus of Rhodes gives a 40% bonus to naval trade across the entire campaign map. Rhodes itself is of little value outside of the Colossus, which grants a substantial boost to trade income, something that will be invaluable over the campaign. Rhodes works best as a dedicated naval base and as an archer recruitment zone, as its status as an island reduces the need for strong infantry to defend it. Rhodes can serve as a supply base for any campaigns in Asia Minor and is particularly valuable as a staging area for invading Halicarnassus and Sardis. Memnon of Rhodes was a Greek commander from the island of Rhodes, in the service of the Persian Empire.
