What happens when you stop using a banking app like a normal customer and start examining it like a penetration tester?
In this hands-on Hack With Elvis training session, we conduct mobile application penetration testing against an intentionally vulnerable banking application built for our cybersecurity lab.
Using tools such as MobSF and JADX, alongside static and dynamic analysis techniques, we explore how security testers investigate mobile applications, identify vulnerabilities, and understand their potential impact.
🔍 What you’ll explore in this session:
Mobile Application Penetration Testing — Understanding how security assessments are conducted against mobile applications.
Static Analysis with MobSF — Analyzing an Android application to identify potential security weaknesses.
Reverse Engineering with JADX — Examining decompiled application code to understand application functionality and potential security issues.
Dynamic Application Testing — Studying application behavior during execution and testing how it handles unexpected inputs.
API and Request Analysis — Exploring how application requests and responses can reveal security weaknesses.
Business Logic Vulnerabilities — Understanding how manipulating transaction values, including negative numbers, can produce unintended financial operations.
Security Lessons — Understanding why proper input validation, secure application design, and server-side security controls are essential.
This session goes beyond running automated security tools. It demonstrates how different testing techniques can be combined to investigate the security of a mobile banking application.
Whether you’re a cybersecurity beginner, aspiring ethical hacker, penetration tester, bug bounty hunter, or application developer, this session offers practical insights into mobile application security testing.
⚠️ Educational Disclaimer: All testing was conducted against an intentionally vulnerable banking application in an authorized, simulated laboratory environment. No real banking systems or customer accounts were involved.
💬 Let’s discuss: Which mobile application penetration testing technique would you like to explore in greater depth?
