Vestibular Schwannoma Diagnostic Evaluation | Pure Tone Audiometry & Speech Discrimination

A focused review of the diagnostic evaluation of vestibular schwannoma, with special emphasis on understanding the audiological findings that often raise suspicion for a retrocochlear lesion. This session simplifies the interpretation of pure tone audiometry and speech discrimination testing, particularly the clinically important mismatch between pure tone hearing loss and disproportionately poor speech discrimination. We also review how audiometry fits into the broader diagnostic workup of vestibular schwannoma, alongside clinical assessment and imaging. Designed for neurosurgery residents and trainees, this lecture aims to make the audiological evaluation of vestibular schwannoma easier to understand and apply clinically.
