After this episode, you'll be able to call your boss in Polish, say you're ill, and handle a doctor’s note.
This is 12 short Polish conversations at A1-A2, spoken slowly by two voices, with every Polish sentence on screen, so it works for focused listening, for reading along, or in the background.
This episode is for A1-A2 learners who already understand more Polish than they can actively say. If you want to hear everyday Polish used in real situations around illness, work, the clinic, and a doctor’s note, this will give you practical phrases without turning practice into a grammar lesson.
🎧 In this episode, you'll practise:
• “Nie dam rady przyjść.” — calling work to say you can’t come in
• “Bardzo źle się czuję.” — describing that you feel really unwell
• “Chciałam zapisać się dziś.” — asking for a same-day doctor’s appointment
• “Wejdziesz za mnie?” — asking a coworker to cover your shift
• “Dzień dobry, kto jest ostatni?” — finding your place in the queue at the clinic
• “Zwolnienie jest już w systemie.” — explaining that the sick note is already online
• “A zwolnienie też będzie?” — asking the doctor directly about sick leave
• “Jak to będzie liczone?” — asking how sick leave pay will work
• “Opieka pójdzie elektronicznie.” — understanding leave connected to caring for a child
The episode is built around a very real situation: you wake up sick, need to call work, and then have to sort out the next steps in Polish. You hear how to explain symptoms, ask for help, confirm what your employer will see, and speak naturally without sounding dramatic.
Keep listening for the later conversation where someone asks about money and hears: “Zwykle około osiemdziesiąt procent.”
📝 How to learn more from this episode:
• First, listen straight through once and follow the situation from the first phone call to the final “idę prosto do łóżka.”
• On your second listen, pause after each key line and say it aloud with the same rhythm, especially short work phrases like “Nie dam rady przyjść” and “Dobrze, napiszę po lekarzu.”
• Pick three lines you may really need one day — one for work, one for the doctor, one for the pharmacy — and rehearse them today.
• Come back tomorrow and listen again: these practical health-and-work phrases stick much faster on the second and third pass.
Polski ze słuchu exists to help as many people as possible actually start speaking Polish, not only understanding what they hear.
💬 Your turn: Finish this sentence in Polish: “Bardzo źle się czuję, bo…”
