CALEB WILLIAMS JOINS MAHOMES & LAMAR In Making NFL HISTORY + Defense EXPOSED + Josh Sweat Trade Talk

Is Caleb Williams beginning to make the leap Chicago Bears fans have waited decades to see? Caleb has now joined Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson as the only quarterbacks cited in the episode research to reach 50 career passing touchdowns before throwing 15 interceptions — putting the Bears quarterback in extremely rare historical company. And Caleb’s return against Atlanta wasn’t just flashy. He completed 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards, finished at 83.3%, threw one touchdown with zero interceptions and posted a 111.2 passer rating. Even more impressive: he went 24-for-24 for 248 yards from a clean pocket. But Haize asks the bigger question: 🔥 Is Caleb simply making spectacular plays — or is he finally mastering the “boring” quarterbacking that separates talented players from elite ones? His completion percentage has jumped from 58.1% in 2025 to 72.5% through his first three 2026 starts, while his career development has also included dramatically cutting his sack rate from the previous season. Then we turn to a Bears defense producing one of the strangest statistical profiles in football. Chicago ranks second in third-down defense at 25.8%, yet only 29th in defensive EPA on first and second down. The Bears have also surrendered 14 pass plays of at least 30 yards — the most in the NFL entering Week 7. So is Dennis Allen’s defense legitimately elite? Or are Chicago’s dominant third-down numbers and ball-control offense hiding vulnerabilities that better opponents can exploit? Haize breaks down: 🛡️ Why Chicago has been so dominant on third down 🚨 Why early-down defense is becoming a concern 💥 The Bears’ league-worst explosive-pass problem 🧠 Why flood and sail concepts have caused issues 🔥 How Kyler Gordon changes Dennis Allen’s pressure packages 🏃 Why Drake Maye is a dangerous matchup 🎯 Five adjustments Chicago needs defensively And finally… 👀 JOSH SWEAT TO CHICAGO? Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame identified Bears and Lions as potential fits for Arizona edge rusher Josh Sweat — an analyst projection, not confirmation of active trade talks. Sweat recorded 12 sacks in 2025, but has only two through six games in 2026, creating an important question about exactly what version of the veteran Chicago would be acquiring. Sweat is 29 and playing on a four-year, $76.4 million contract, with $17 million base salaries scheduled for 2027 and 2028, though those future base salaries are not guaranteed according to the episode research. Would Ryan Poles trade a mid-round pick? Would a third be too much? And how much should Detroit potentially acquiring Sweat influence Chicago’s thinking? 🎙️ Chicago Bears Central with Haize brings Bears fans daily news, analysis, rumors, reactions and debate. 🐻 Subscribe and join the conversation!
