You answer the phone, say hello, and get nothing back. One second, two, three, then a click and a friendly voice asking for you by name. That pause usually isn’t a bad connection. It’s a machine on the other end deciding what to do with you. In this video, I explain what that silence really is, the words that make you an easy target, what to say instead, and the free phone settings that keep most scam calls from ever reaching you.
Your phone is a door into your home too, and for many families, it’s the first door scammers try.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
✔ What that 3-second silence actually is: predictive dialers and answering machine detection
✔ Why answering and staying on the line can lead to even more calls
✔ The honest truth about AI voice cloning, the FCC’s 2024 ruling on AI voices in robocalls, and why process beats trying to spot a fake voice
✔ The five things never to give a caller you don’t know: a clean “yes,” your name, details that verify who you are, a button press, and your time
✔ Three calm lines that shut down almost every scam call
✔ Caller ID spoofing, the Truth in Caller ID Act, and why the name on your screen isn’t proof
✔ iPhone Silence Unknown Callers, Android call screening and spam filters, carrier spam protection, and the National Do Not Call Registry
