LIVE BY the old Long Bien Bridge, Hanoi (deep-house)

Long Bien Bridge, Hanoi — a one hour live deep house set filmed on Banana Island, on the Red River. They bombed it three times. They rebuilt it every time. Long Bien Bridge has been crossing the Red River since 1902 — built by the French, targeted by American bombers in 1967 and 1972, repaired with whatever was left. The sections that took direct hits were patched with concrete and steel that doesn't match. You can still see exactly where the bombs fell. I set up on Banana Island, in the field below. The bridge above. Banana trees on every side. Two women were burning dry grass in the field next to me. Children were riding bikes on the narrow paths between the crops. Motorbikes crossed the bridge above, one after another, like they always do. Nobody stopped. Nobody asked what I was doing. The island kept living its afternoon. I played for an hour.
