#tanzania #education #teaching #learning REPOST FROM 2020. I've had the pleasure of teaching at various schools during my time living in Tanzania. This was a class that I taught at the culmination of my Fulbright fellowship. From the time of this lesson I have updated my knowledge base on this: ⭐️ My indigenous ancestors are called the Arawak, not the Taino. Taino means "peace" and is used as a greeting. The Spaniards who came heard them say this word and thought that it was their name, but in fact they were greetings the visitors. ⭐️ Our enslaved ancestors did in fact come from East Africa as well. This is corroborated on websites/archives like slavevoyages.org I have also since then learned how to say Nyereres name correctly 🤣.
