Beneath the Busy | How Vulnerability Can Become Your Greatest Strength | With Daniel Callaghan Content note: this episode includes discussion of suicide. If that feels too heavy right now, please skip this one and take care of yourself. In this episode, Lauren Davis sits down with Daniel Callaghan, mental health advocate and employer branding professional, for an honest conversation about men’s mental health and what it really takes to move from surviving to living. Daniel shares his story openly: growing up in Essex, depression and anxiety from his early teens, a suicide attempt at 17, a clinical depression diagnosis at 22, grief, baby loss, and an ADHD diagnosis that reframed much of what he thought he knew about himself. Together, they explore the messages boys receive about being a man, why so many young men fear being a burden, and why talking out loud, even to yourself, can be so powerful. Lauren and Daniel also unpack the difference between gratitude and guilt, why you can feel grateful and still be depressed, and why putting on your own oxygen mask first matters. For leaders and HR professionals, Daniel explains why a supportive line manager can shape someone’s experience of work more than any benefit or policy, and shares simple ways to create safety: noticing when someone seems off, making support visible, and running towards problems instead of away from them.
