Time lapse of me struggling through my Desmo service. After 15+ hours of effort, I successfully changed my timing belts, spark plugs, air filter, shims and coolant. Three shims replaced and a broken bolt later, my Ducati Supersport 950 S is working spectacularly and looking forward to another 18.5k miles of smiles. Tips: Don't attempt to remove the vent tube clamps, just grab the tube and pull downwards. the clamps will expand on their own. Remove the air filter as an assembly by removing the three bolts and slide the entire unit out. Don't undo the nut like I did. When doing closer shims, apply ample pressure on the rocker as the tool can slip. Resulting recoil can cause things to go missing. Verify you're going off correct clearance measurements. If you're experiencing any resistance putting cam caps on the cams, the cam must not be fully seated due to interference from the valves. Verify half circle clips are fully seated against the valve and the closer shim is fully enclosing the clips. After torquing down cam caps, verify the cams rotate freely. Valve cover bolt torque is very low, I used 10 ft lbs and I snapped one. Correct torque is around 7.
