It's Bhure and his wife who walks out of the car and offer it to Savita to take Bimla to the district hospital. Its, however, too late now as Bimla's condition has worsened so much that she can hardly be taken anywhere beyond the sub-centre. There is much anxiety here among the kith and kin, when finally Savita announces that she is going to deliver Bimla's baby at the sub-centre itself. Amidst much scepticism, Bimla is carried over to the sub-centre. The condition at the sub-centre is abysmal and Savita with the help of Kamla try to put it into some working condition. Bimla in terrible distress is finally put on a make shift table and, Savita, taking all precautionary delivery measure into account begins her first delivery. Sapanch ji too arrives at the sub-centre, a fact not known to Mangat. Prabhu reports to Gajendra about the latest goings-on in the village, about how refusal by Mangat led Bhure to step in and that the nurse behenji is at this very moment delivering the first child.
