Canada Goose fishing line rescue!

Rescue: 4/13/26 I walked around Belmont Lake State Park today and had my net and essentials with me just in case. I was about to leave but then I happened to see a few geese around by the State Police side so I went over there to check them out before leaving and it’s a good thing I did. I saw some grazing but then spotted one with its mate laying down. I approached him to get him to stand and that’s when I saw all the line. The fishing line was wrapped around both legs. I gasped, said a prayer as I always do and got all my things ready. Luckily I found him before any embedding could occur. I had to do a few quick snips and he was back to his mate. There was no hook so what that tells me is that someone left their fishing line behind and this goose walked right through it and it got all tangled on him. Remember, Canada Geese walk right through the exact spots people fish in order to get to the fields to graze. If you fish, please look at your area before leaving and make sure you aren’t leaving anything behind. Please LEAVE NO TRACE.
