Day 17 – The Bayou State Trail | Happy July 4th

I woke up anxious, not sure if I had unknowingly camped on private property. I’d planned to sleep in and rest, but the night before I couldn’t find the campsite I was aiming for due to the thick overgrowth, so I took the safest spot I could. In the morning, I hustled 4 miles down to The Loran Camp, strung up my hammock to dry out from a sweaty, restless night, and took a deep breath. Luckily, John met me there with a breakfast biscuit and cold drinks—an absolute morale boost. We hiked into Glenmore together and grabbed some greasy nachos, curly fries, and milkshakes at Fuzzies that hit the spot. His wife gave us a ride back to his truck where I ended up camping for the night. After a rough patch, I’m feeling lucky to have a solid camp and a guaranteed ride back to the trail in the morning.
