Australia & New Zealand: The Ghan & the TranzAlpine | Scenic Rail Journey Ep 19

Travel far, see the world. In Episode 19 of TradingRight · The Scenic Rail Journey we ride the great trains of Australia and New Zealand. Twenty-two stops: from Puffing Billy, the steam train of the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne, to Sydney Central and the Indian Pacific across the continent, over the World Heritage Blue Mountains, through Broken Hill, the Silver City, and Adelaide, along the 478-kilometre Nullarbor Straight, the longest straight railway in the world, and by the gold town of Kalgoorlie to Perth on the Indian Ocean; then north on The Ghan from Adelaide by underground Coober Pedy, Alice Springs in the red centre and Nitmiluk Gorge at Katherine to tropical Darwin; up the cane coast on the Spirit of Queensland and through the rainforest of the Barron Gorge on the Kuranda Scenic Railway. In New Zealand the Northern Explorer climbs the Raurimu Spiral past the volcanoes of Tongariro, the Coastal Pacific follows the Kaikōura coast to Christchurch, and the TranzAlpine crosses the Staircase Viaduct and Arthur's Pass to Greymouth on the West Coast. Four chapters explore the history of rail in both countries, its engineering, life on board and how to ride, and the food along the line.
