FACTORY FRESH SD70ACe-T4 Leader! 3 CP Trains @ Weston - 10/31/2026

October's catch of the month pulled off an absolute shocker, and I'm talking about CP Rail's factory-new T4 SD70ACe 5500 leading 101 on its first day in service on Halloween night. It was built by Progress Rail in Indiana, officially completed on Sept 23 and serves as the railway's first of 64 SD70ACe-T4 locomotives on the roster for the future being (not for long as backstory will be coming up near the end of the description). Now onto the video, me & five railfans stopped by Weston for an hour where three CP trains were in the picture. First up is CP 421 ascending the grade with four units 3-1-0 style featuring two GEVOs & two AC44s with one of them as mid-remote. Counterpart 420 was waiting for them ahead at Emery, proceeding straight to Toronto a short time later with CP ES44 8721, KCS ACe 4041, and Tier 4 GEVO 5015 in a 2x1x0 setup, alongside a happy engineer. Last but not very least is the train of the night in CP 101 rolling straight to VIT to build their train before the cross country journey to Vancouver, BC. Backstory - As 101 reached Point au Baril, CP 5500's piston completely blew up which resulted in CP Tier 4 7571 taking over the helm while 5500 got dropped off in Sudbury potentially by CP 421, sitting in the yard for over 24 hours. As of tonight, 420 shipped them back to Toronto as it awaits to be taken back to Progress Rail for further more evaluation which could result in the 64 planned ACe-T4s being held back until next year. Talk about a first impression gone wrong.
