The Byrds - If You're Gone - Guitar Cover

This song is the 8th track off of the Byrds second album, Turn! Turn! Turn! The song was recorded on 20 October 1965, and the album was released on 6 December 1965, just 3 days after the Beatles released Rubber Soul. “If You’re Gone” is one of Gene Clark’s best in my opinion, along with other great songs of his on this album like “The World Turns All Around Her”. The droning backing vocals of “If You’re Gone” are very unique just being sustained “ooooh”s throughout most of the song, adding to the soothing sentiment of the lyrics and the relaxing 3/4 time signature. David Crosby is most likely playing his Gretsch Tennessean here, panned to the left channel. His playing is rather simple, but certainly appropriate for the soft nature of the song. I’ve panned my 1967 Gretsch 6120 (Using the Bridge pickup) on top of Crosby’s Gretsch in the left channel. Roger McGuinn is playing his Rickenbacker 360/12 with his signature banjo rolls, which are especially made prominent in the middle of the verses when he plays a roll with ascending notes over a D chord.
