Welcome to Orunayé Podcast. Download our app, available on Android and iPhone. Today, we focus on "El Dilogún: Chapter 1." Greetings, dear listeners. In this episode of Orunayé Podcast, we delve into the depths of the sacred Dilogún, specifically its first chapter, unraveling the mysteries contained within this ancient oracle. The "Tratado Dilogún I," as its dedication indicates, is devoted to the people and the religious community, especially to all Olorishas ("Santeros"), men and women worldwide. This first edition marks the beginning of an encyclopedic treatise on the Dilogún. To grasp the significance of this work, it is essential to explore its fundamental aspects from both a technical and historical perspective, drawing directly from its pages. The importance of African documents is highlighted, as well as the need to critique, defend, or correct misconceptions that have persisted over time. The text begins by explaining that the Dilogún was created by Oya and that the sixteen principal letters bear her name. It is revealed to us as the means of communication between humans and the Orishas , the primordial deities who govern nature and destiny. From a technical standpoint, the chapter introduces the fundamental structure of the oracle, detailing the names of the sixteen principal meyis : Okanran, Eyioko, Ogunda, Iroso, Ojuani, Obara, Oddi, Elleunle, Osá, Ofun, Oworin, Eyila-Shebora, Metanla, Merinla, Marunla, and Merindilogun. Each of these letters holds a specific meaning and manifests through the arrangement of the cowrie shells cast during divination. We hope this introduction has been to your liking and encourages you to explore the upcoming episodes of Orunayé Podcast with us, where we will continue to uncover the mysteries of the Dilogún. Until next time!
