Missouri election 2026: A test of Republican power

Missouri voters have repeatedly rejected some of the Republican legislature’s biggest priorities. But they’ve kept electing Republicans to run the state. Will Tuesday’s election be any different? On this episode of Missouri on the Record, host Jason Hancock talks with Park University political scientist Matt Harris about what’s at stake in the Nov. 3 election. They examine the fight over abortion rights, efforts to protect citizen initiatives, the referendum on Missouri’s Republican-drawn congressional map and Democrats’ push to break the GOP’s legislative supermajorities. With control of the legislature firmly in Republican hands, the question isn’t just who wins Tuesday. It’s what the results could reveal about the future of Missouri politics.
