In this video, we put 15 trawlers and expedition yachts through the same fuel test: Bermuda to the Azores, about 1,800 nautical miles with nowhere to refuel. Using each builder's published tank size and range, we work out miles per gallon, how much fuel the crossing burns, and what's left on arrival. Our rule: you must arrive with at least 20% still in the tanks. Ten boats pass, from the Nordhavn 40 and Kadey-Krogen 48 to the Bering 65 and Dashew FPB 64. Five run dry, including the Beneteau Swift Trawler 35, Nordic Tug 34 and Grand Banks 42 Classic, and we show exactly where. Plus why one owner's real fuel log tells a very different story than the brochure, and how the northern route via Greenland and Iceland changes the math.

Which boat would you take from Bermuda to the Azores? Tell us in the comments.
Numbers are builders' published figures or broker/owner reports as stated in the video, usually calm water at displacement speed. This is a comparison, not passage-planning advice. Boats not shown in a real photo are illustrated with similar vessels.
