On August 5, 2025, MSF project coordinator Caroline Willemen spoke to ABC News about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. From Gaza City, Willemen described the devastating situation: “We’ve had a fourfold increase of patients in our malnutrition program since May. On top of that, we continue to see patients who are getting shot or crushed at aid distribution sites.”
Our teams are receiving an increasing number of malnourished patients while they themselves struggle to find sufficient food. Among screenings at MSF facilities in July, 25 percent of children aged 6 months to 5 years old and pregnant or breastfeeding women were malnourished. The ongoing hunger crisis in Gaza will not be solved with military-controlled aid distribution models. A principled, UN-led humanitarian response must be restored immediately.
