Scam or Steal? $119 for 2 "Untested" Sega Game Gears and a TV Tuner.

I paid $119 for two “untested” Sega Game Gears, five games and an original Sega Game Gear TV Tuner. On paper, it looked like a great retro gaming haul. In reality, one console had already been seriously messed with — while the other turned out to be a surprisingly clean survivor. In this video I tear down and diagnose both Game Gears. The first console is missing screws, shows signs of previous repair attempts, corrosion and heavy flux residue, and has damage around some of the mainboard components and ASIC pads. Saving the original board simply isn’t realistic, but it won’t go to waste — I’ll use its components as donors for a Chinese replacement Game Gear motherboard, which will become a long-term repair project for the channel. The second Game Gear is a completely different story. It still has its original capacitors, so I carry out a full Sega Game Gear recap, removing the old electrolytic capacitors, cleaning the pads and installing new replacements on the main, power and audio boards. After testing the repaired console, I clean the shell, buttons, membranes and contacts before putting everything back together. Then there’s the strangest part of the haul: the Sega Game Gear TV Tuner. Analog television may be useless on it today, but the tuner also has an external composite video input — so naturally I had to find out what else I could connect to it. And yes… that eventually involves a Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Mario running on a Sega Game Gear screen.
