In the winter of 1404, an old man with a crippled leg marched out of Samarkand to conquer China. Over thirty-five years he had sacked Delhi, Baghdad and Damascus, broken the Golden Horde and captured the Ottoman sultan.
This is the story of Timur, known in the West as Tamerlane: a raider from a minor Central Asian family who set out to rebuild the empire of Genghis Khan.
